The claim that do follow blogs are inviting comment spam is not completely true. It is easy to track comments that don’t add value. I can recognize this kind of comments quickly. More than that, there is the spam comment plugin which help protect from Spam.

I fully agree that there are enough good dofollow blogs around so that commenting (or even reading) on nofollow becomes obsolete.

I kinda think that the nofollow blogs think that we're, pardon the expression, white trash.

In my opinion formed by reading various blogs on the subject, we do it simply to GET TRAFFIC and GET COMMENTS. How very crass of us.

I've seen quite a few dofollow blogs (not mine I suck) that would put the best of the nofollows to shame and plenty of overly spammed nofollow blogs.

That's life though. Everyone has to have someone to look down on and we're just above spammers. Who btw are still human and should not be villified (sp) as they are. They're just kind of dumb mainly.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit.

Great article, I certainly believe that going a do-follow blog will lure more and more spammers.

Makes no sense. I see alot of so called do follow blogs that are not do follow. I also see some that do not like do follow blgs but they comment on them. Sounds more like the people who do not like them only want them to get the do follow links and no one else.

Commenting on blogs takes time like you said.
And definitely anyone would prefer a dofollow over a nofollow blog.

But my understanding is that as a commentator to a blog, I would like to add something to it.

If this means in addition, to create a link (which is obviously a valid purpose) then so be it.

Commenting intelligently is the proper way to answer in a blog. Again being careful not to spam. Having those spam "arresters" in your blog is of help.

Thanks for bring up your points.

I've found that by opening up my previously nofollow blogs to do follow, my traffic and comments have tripled.

it does actually look like there are more advantages to having a do follow blog, than disadvantages. and it's true. i'm more likely to comment on a do follow blog, than a no follow blog, and more likely to visit regularly as well.
