Dofollow Blog Incoming Links

Do dofollow blog incoming links from bad neighborhoods negatively affect page rank?
This is a really a follow up to my last post about Dofollow Blogs and Page Rank.
One thing that was mentioned on the blog I refer to in that post, was that page rank may have been negatively affected because of incoming links from other websites that Google may not like - many times called “links from bad neighborhoods”.
It appears the her dofollow blog ended up on some forums, and on some blogs, in dofollow blog lists. You can do a search on Google and find a number of blogs and forums that contains lists of dofollow blogs. You receive a link back to your blog, which you would think is a good thing.
And it probably is a good thing unless Google sees this a something like a link farm, or a site that sells links - something bad that Google doesn’t like. This could result in a link to your blog that is not desirable.
————————–
Side Note:
Many times there lists are not accurate regarding nofollow vs dofollow. Plus, you did not request to have your blog be put on these lists, and it may be difficult getting of the list if you wanted to.
With my DoFollow Blog Directory you place your blog in the directory, I don’t search for dofollow blogs and add them to the directory. The only way you can get in the directory is to initiate it yourself.
You also get to choose your desired link text, you give your blog a description and you choose a category for you blog. This adds much more value to your blog than just some link on a blog or forum.
————————–
So, could being on these lists negatively affect your Google page rank? Good question, and I don’t know.
I have heard that links from bad neighborhoods to your site will not count against you, and also not count for you. This would make the most sense and I hope that’s how Google handles these situations.
If Google counted these bad neighborhood links against you, that could cause some real problems. For example, let’s say you are a devious low life scoundrel - I know this is not true, but the is a hypothetical “what if”.
YOu have a website related to Golf Clubs and you are number 5 on the first page of Google. Of course you want the number one spot, so you devise a devious plan to get that coveted spot.
So, you find a number of bad neighborhood spots on the internet, and you start placing links to your top 4 competitors sites on those websites. Google starts noticing all these bad incoming links and starts dropping your competitors. Your site rises to the number one spot on Google for golf clubs and you win.
But wait, another devious scoundrel knows the same low life strategy that you do, and starts placing links to you on bad sites and knocks you out of the game.
As you can see, this would create a lot of chaos. So, even though bad incoming links won’t help you, I don’t believe they will hurt you either.
I don’t think you need to be concerned about dofollow blog incoming links from bad neighborhoods. But, why not get incoming links from good neighborhoods like the Dofolow Blog Directory.

indeed. my problem with some of these lists is that many blogs are actually no follow.
so now, i use the seo add on for firefox, just to be sure.
Hello Mike,
I agree wih you in the past two posts and I think it’s all about the quality of the links so thanks a lot for the dofollow blog directory.
Many of the dofollow lists are outdated, so thank you for your directory. I agree with you Mike. Links from bad neighborhoods can’t hurt. If they did, then everyone would be trying to hurt their competitors. I could not imagine the mess that would leave.
I can’t agree more,The problem with any kind of link is where it resides. I totally agree with your past two posts and I think it’s all about the quality of the links, bad neighbourhood is a term that can mean a lot to different people.
Ye, I get asked that question quite a bit. I do not believe that bad incoming links can hurt, but bad outgoing links can certainly hurt your SERP.
I think incoming links can hurt you, especially if the bad links out number the good ones. If you mass spam linked your competitions link with the same anchor text in really bad neighborhoods, it would prob hurt their rankings.
I dont think this affects sites with authority as much as it could a new site.
But outbound links can affect your rankings by putting your in association with bad sites.
If links from bad neighbourhood does not count then why to worry for it. But ofcourse always quality links are a better option for SERP.
“…..do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought…”
I am also pretty sure that dofollow blog incoming links from bad neighbors should not hurt in any way any site’s ranking as that would be very illogical. Then everyone could hurt any site just by placing links on bad sites. What i think it counts, is topic relevance of the site that is linking to your site. I am sure that google looks over the content and much more likes when you post link about golf site from golf related site, then from some lets say porn site.
Thank you for the list, most of these blogs seem to be do follow. The hard part is that some of them become do follow after a certain number of posts and they don’t make that clear. Thanks again for the list it helps alot!
hey buddy thanks for this article i read this whole post… but can you tell me what is the main differences between do follow and no follow blog??? i have stuck very badly between this.
. thanks
Hi Complaints (A strange keyword tag),
If you want to learn the differences between nofollow and dofollow, see this blog post -
Dofollow NoFollow Differences
I haven’t yet visited the link of “Dofolow Blog Directory” mentioned in the post but from my past experiences, many blogs listed in such places turn out to be nofollow.(they were actually dofolow once but comment spamming make them revert back to nofollow).
why not found this website from Google Germany with teh most informative and usefull Content.hope wrote mor usefull articles on Internet will come back again
Thanks for helping us to know better the difference between DoFollow and NoFollow! Thanks Mike.. I will surely check this out.
Thank you very much for the list. We have a website that is slowly climbing towards page one of Google searches usingn our most popular real estate search terms for our area. We are currently on pages 2, 3 and 7 for the most popular three search terms. We believe the blog will help our business and hopefully bring visitors to our website. And discussing these and related matters on blogs and in forums hopefully will help establish our business’ existence on the web.
There is very nice information about dofollow blogs.
I’ve noticed that most blogs are in fact no follow unless they use the Keywordluv feature. Most of the people understand the idea of rewarding the poster with a quality link. SEO for Firefox is great tool to see what links are do follow and no follow.
I check out the website you have given but most of them are no follow.
I’m not sure if dofollow is bad but I do know that spamming is. So far my golf site is not being spammed but if it starts to I will be going back to nofollow.
I just checked the dofollow list and I’m very impressed with the selection. Still not sure if dofollow can be bad, but I’m thinking a link is a link.
Maybe some bloggers are returning back to the ‘nofollow’ feature so using Firefox’s plugin (seo) can reveal who is following and who isn’t.
i agree with you. But what is the difference between nofollow and dofollow?
thanks very much . but, Many of the dofollow lists are outdated !!! is there an update
What I really want to know is why when sometimes I search for Do Follow blogs, then when I access to some blog I realize that is not dofollow? so why is this kind of blogs in those lists? That’s because the list is not updated? Or which is the real reason?
Some blogs on dofollow blog lists are nofollow because:
1. They were dofollow when they were put on the list, but after receiving too much spam they go back to nofollow. It’s time consuming to keep these lists up to date.
OR
2. They were never dofollow and were not checked when they were put on the list. You could try to get your nofollow blog put on these dofollow lists to get more traffic. It’s important that the list owner check these blogs when they are placed on the list.
Mike
HI,
Great post, the logic of dofollow is very well explained here, upto now i known only that with the help of do follow blogs we can get a backlink, but by reading your comment i knew that even the link which is placed in sites which is considered as a bad neighbour by google is worthless.Really excellent post I like it most.

I do not believe that bad incoming links can hurt, but bad outgoing links can certainly hurt your SERP.
Most of those dofollow blogs and dofollow forums I have already worked on but there are a few that we can’t use. Backlinks are such a time consuming bore chore but a necessary fact of working and gaining visiblity on the web. The commentor’s over here helped me change the way i was actually seeing all these dofollow thing. I hate spammers too. I allow links to follow so I get a lot of spammers writing comments that are never allowed. Any idea why spammers seem to be hawking drugs, gambling and sex ??
I am personally awaiting the day some spammer hawks something genuinely useful and not strange or illegal. How about you?
